Houston, Alabama

Visited the Houston Jail…a log jail constructed in 1868. It was peppered with horseshoe nails to keep prisoners from escaping! While we were there, we ran into Nora from the Houston Historical Society…who was visiting that day with her sons from out of town. She was so cute and sweet, and told us all about the jail and how the Society had renovated it in 2003. The prisoners had to pee out of holes carved in the walls…and after seeing them I’m still trying to work out how they managed the rest! Lunch at the local restaurant, and hung out with “Hoss”…this dog has been hangin’ around the restaurant for 13 years. He was so sweet!

Went to Kinlock Falls (and finding it was a challenge…and by that I mean wandering around in the woods with no service, access to a map, or good sense…but it was worth it!). Climbed down to the bottom, and might even have gone swimming if it was warmer. I highly recommend checking it out if you find yourself in Alabama! Plans to see more…so more to come!

Sougahoagdee Falls - AL

Wow! This is truly a must see! We went on another adventure in Bankhead National Forest today…and took our adventure dog Lucy (Goose!) along for the fun. It’s a 4 mile hike (pretty easy for most to navigate), and just an amazing waterfall at the end. We had such a blast, and we will be sure to visit again when we are in the area. Be sure to check this one out…it’s truly epic.
